FIRST RESPONSE TO STRESS EXERCISE

January 25th

To reduce all anxiety and stress try the “First Response to Stress” exercise described below.
This exercise is taught in the Professional Hypnotherapist Training & Advanced Hypnosis Courses.

1. Sit or lie down and close your eyes.

2. Put your right hand on your stomach and your left hand on your chest.

3. Imagine a blue balloon in your belly.

4. Every time you inhale, imagine the blue balloon inflating and let your belly pooch out. When you exhale let your belly go back in.

5. Say to the following yourself as you slowly exhale and vividly visualize and experience relaxing:

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 10”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 9”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 8”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 7”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 6”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 5”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 4”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 3”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 2”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 1”

“Relax…. Relax…. Relax…. 0”

Breathing like this over a 3-minute period reduces all anxiety and stress.
It can be done six to eight times per day and needs to be practiced over a period of time.
